Two classics of Japanese anime

DEAD LEAVES
Earth, in the near future and the only humans left are clones. The main characters are a man named Retro, who for some reason has a TV for a head and a woman named Pandy, who has a birthmark over her right eye. Awakening naked on Earth with no recollection of their past, they embark on a devastating crime-wave in search of food, clothing and transportation, but are captured by the authorities and sent to the infamous lunar penitentiary named Dead Leaves. What impresses most about Dead Leaves is how much the writer and director have squeezed in to the modest runtime, this is a bold and frenetic animation that is directed like an episode of 24, with use of split screen and multiple camera angles to play out stunning action set pieces.

BLOOD: THE LAST VAMPIRE
Set in Japan on the threshold of the Vietnam War, Blood: The Last vampire follows a teenaged girl named Saya as she infiltrates a U.S. Army base school to flush out a pair of vampires among the student body. This is classic piece of anime from the creators of "Ghost In The Shell" and winner of the "Best Theatrical Feature Film" at the 2001 World Animation Celebration.
