This Q&A was recorded after a screening of Hillsborough at the 2007 Jameson Belfast Film Festival.
Written by Jimmy McGovern, directed by Charles McDougall and starring Christopher Eccleston and Ricky Tomlinson, this was the first time the ‘made for TV’ drama had ever been screened in a cinema.
The drama was based on the real life events of April 1989, when ninety-six Liverpool supporters were crushed to death during an F.A. Cup Semi-Final match against Nottingham Forest at Sheffield Wednesday's Hillsborough Stadium.
This movie follows three Liverpudlian families before the match, during the tragedy and at the ensuing court battles, which tried to decide who was to blame and what went wrong.
This special event was dedicated to the 96 men, women and children killed at Hillsborough on the 15 April 1989; and to the bereaved, the survivors, the rescuers and those who have died prematurely due to their loss and trauma.
The packed to capacity audience at QFT heard Prof. Phil Scraton, author of the acclaimed book Hillsborough: The Truth, and Jimmy McGovern, writer of the drama-documentary answer questions after the screening.
