New York 1977, the city is scorched by stifling heat waves, stifled by inflation and hurtling toward social unrest. But its citizens partied on. Nightlife flourished, disco and cocaine ruled at the exclusive Studio 54 and punks smashed guitars at CBGB. Meanwhile, a raging orgy was underway at Plato's Retreat.
This humorous and revealing film meets the one-time customers of Platos Retreat as they tell the rise and fall story of its mastermind, the King of Swing, Larry Levenson.
At the height of New York’s permissive nightlife, Platos became a haven for celebrities and a familial environment for its regulars heading out to party, in all senses of the word.
American Swing approaches its free-love subject with some nostalgia whilst also suggesting its inevitable demise. A riotous look at a lifestyle led by freedom of choice and a good time had by all!
Contains scenes of a sexual nature.
