8 Goals, 8 Directors, 8 Films
8 is a full length feature film made up of eight short films. These centre on eight different themes and are directed by eight famous directors who through this medium express their option on the progress made and the setbacks and challenges faced by our planet today.
In September 2000, 191 governments committed to halve world poverty by 2015. This is defined by the following ‘Millennium Development Goals’: Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger; Achieve Universal Primary Education; Promote Gender Equality; Reduce Child Mortality; Improve Maternal Health; Combat Hiv/aids, malaria and other diseases; Ensure Environmental Sustainability; Global Partnership for Development.
We're only halfway to reaching these goals. The situation remains critical.
Eight filmmakers have engaged to share their vision of these major issues with the public.
POVERTY OF JUSTICE
This documentary will screen alongside ‘8’. Poverty is an affront to human dignity and the world’s worst human rights crisis. It exists in all countries, developed or developing, and is likely to worsen with climate change and economic recession. Poverty is a human rights issue and Amnesty will be holding to account those reponsible for the abuses that drive poverty. Poverty of Justice, a brand new documentary from Amnesty International, tells the stories of three communities.
