Love Live Long is the latest film by the pioneering British director and Oscar-nominated Mike Figgis (Leaving Las Vegas), a sexually-charged movie, set against the backdrop of the controversial Gumball car rally.
A trans-European, 3,000 mile road trip for a bootful of assorted ‘trustifarians’ and moneyed celebrities, The Gumball Rally has garnered its fair share of press coverage since its inception in 1999.
The film is essentially an improvised two-hander, with the majority of the film set in Istanbul. Sophie Winkelman (Big Suze in Peep Show) plays an emotionally scarred young woman who encounters a cruel flash git Gumball driver, played by Daniel Lapaine.
The movie shows their first encounter in an Istanbul market, their involvement during the rally and hints at the disaster that is to follow. Love Live Long is a provocative movie and, if anything, subverts the corporate brand with tension and raw emotion.
With title tune by Sandy Shaw and elements of the Dogma 95 tradition, what you’re left with is an exciting, imaginative and soulful piece of film making.
