An entertaining, championing, and enthusiastically campaigning film relating the story of thalidomide against a present-day background promoting ability and challenging face to face notions of ‘normality’ in beauty and physical perfection.
The filmmaker challenges himself as much as his subjects on this journey as he plans to produce a nude photographic exhibition of those living with the effects of thalidomide.
On the way, we are casually informed of the German pharmaceuticals company who have never paid compensation, the social stigma of the drug for the parents who took it as much as their children liviing with the results, and the successful UK campaign for compensation led by Belfast woman Kim Morton.
An excellently made film, delivered with humour and lightness of touch.
