No Special Place weaves together memory, biography and race in a distinctive and unusual personal narrative. The script mixes material appropriated from John Masters's 1954 novel Bhowani Junction, set amongst the Anglo-Indian community immediately prior to Indian independence, with monologues that Jewesbury has written in the central characters' voices.
Its fractured narrative of unreliable memories, taking place somewhere between Masters's fictional India and the London of Jewesbury's own upbringing, prompts a consideration of the shifting, uncertain character of all our senses of self.
Originally presented as a two-screen installation at Void in Derry, this is the premiere of the new version of this piece.
