Music has featured heavily in the films of John T. Davis, from the punk of ‘Shellshock Rock’ to the Americana of ‘Route 66’ to the pure country of ‘Power in the Blood’, ‘Heart on the Line’ and ‘Hobo’. And of course John is something of a guitar player and singer himself.
His earliest memories include the ‘singing cowboys’ Roy Rogers and Gene Autry. A longtime fan of Dylan (and surely the only local film maker to have shot Bob, Van, John Lee Hooker, Arlo Guthrie etc.), John’s later passion became country music.
In fact he filmed – and became friends with - many of Nashville’s finest songwriters including the legendary Harlan Howard.
In this evening to coincide with the screening of John’s latest film, Tailwind, he will perform a range of songs associated with his life in film, including a number he’s just written, inspired by Tailwind. He’ll be joined by a range of other musicians, including his long-standing friend and collaborator, producer Michael Beattie.
