In 2004 Sonia Nic Giolla Easbuig traveled around the West Bank and Gaza documenting daily life as she saw it.
Her film is a personal eye witness journey through the region during which local people tell their own stories. We hear from Subhi Abdel, whose son had been killed just two weeks previously; there is an exclusive interview with Dr. Abdel Rantisi, a Hamas leader who was later killed in a rocket attack by the Israeli’s; a young man loses his sight and his legs when a crude device explodes in his hand; dramatic scenes unfold as the film-maker is caught in an alleyway with other international observers, under gunfire from Israeli tanks for 2 hours; we get a glimpse of life inside Arafat’s compound and join an ambulance crew who administer to the sick during curfew.
The same stories are emerging from the West Bank and Gaza to this day. Nic Giolla Easbuig’s film gives us a rare inside account of the ordinary people who are living this nightmare daily.
The film-maker will attend the screening.
