This is the personal journey of a young journalist, William Francome, born on 9 December 1981 the very night, Abu-Jamal, was arrested in Philadelphia.
William grew up knowing about Mumia’s case from his activist mother and shortly before his 25th birthday he decided to take more direct involvement. He embarks on a filmic journey, which never loses focus in the face of an extremely large amount of information about Mumia’s case.
It takes him into the heart of the US judicial system, and brings him face-to-face with some of the cultural and political icons of a generation including Alice Walker, Angela Davies and Noam Chomsky.
The filmmakers make the connection between Mumia and the wider world and in doing so help achieve a more poignant and lasting effect. We come to learn that Mumia’s case is an inextricably political affair. He has attracted huge international support and has become one the most famous and controversial inmates of Death Row. This film delivers new evidence to further strengthen the compelling case in Mumia’s defence.
Amnesty International is hosting panel discussions after this event.
In Prison My Whole Life panel will include:
William Francome, the film’s protaganist who will also introduce the screening and will be chaired by Maura McCallion (Assistant Director of the Law Centre NI and Amnesty International Belfast Group). She has campaigned on a number of death penalty cases including Scot Kenny Richie, who was finally released from death row in January. The panel will discuss the death penalty and the US Criminal Justice System.
