An idyllic Transylvanian village, a forgotten European culture, the last of Romania’s ethnic Germans speak of a lost era as they feel history determined to finally define them.

This extraordinary film evokes a world so far from our own in both physical and cultural terms that it is almost hypnotic in its ability to draw you into the stories of its two principal characters. One is a descendent of original Saxon settlers in Transylvania. He tells, with a wizened intensity, the story of his people and challenges modern audiences with his own very real experiences of nationalist socialism. With amusing and charming wit, the other, an elderly woman of Landler stock, tends her grave plot regularly in desperate preparation to be in it. Her story is a remarkable tale of survival as she recounts her own experience of spending five years in a Soviet gulag while also offering witty insights about life. You will leave having been transported to another world entirely

A treat for the senses!
