Every seventh person in the world is a Chinese farmer. This film offers a portrait of three different provincial Chinese villages existing amidst agricultural lifestyles long lost in Europe.Between 2002 and 2005 the filmmakers conducted numerous interviews in three Chinese villages documenting everyday life and disproving any sense of censorship the west may have of China. At the same time villagers shot their own short films about their surroundings, hopes and dreams. Evoking a world, it’s work and photography in a style akin to Terence Malick, the result is an exceptional film that provides insights into life in China away from the urban and industrial centres - a life between socialism and market economy in which villages become the testing ground for democracy and self-determination
