As part of Twisted Cornea the Waterfront presents a special marathon of horror screenings in a specially constructed micro-cinema.
If you want to discover the true plight of the independent filmmaker, look no further than these documentaries...
DAY SESSION
2:00PM AUDIENCE OF ONE
4:00PM BLOOD, BOOBS AND BEAST
6:00PM AUTOMATONS
In Michael Jacobs’ feature documentary debut, a Pentecostal minister, having received a vision from God, leads his flock to make a sci-fi biblical epic titled ‘Gravity: The Shadow of Joseph’ described by its divinely appointed director as ‘Star Wars meets The Ten Commandments’. Blood, Boobs & Beast tells the compelling story of Don Dohler, whose movies have been called everything from oddly brilliant to some of the worst films of all time. Despite his critics Dohler has also inspired artists and filmmakers such as Robert Crumb, J.J. Abrams and Art Speigelman (Maus). One of the best depictions of the B-Horror movie genre you’ll see.
Automatons is without doubt an ode to those innocent but wonderful sci-fi flicks of the fifties. A period when robots consisted of spare parts found in the garden shed. Filmed like an old episode of the Twilight zone or Doctor Who, Director McKenny creates a child-like world of robots and technology, set on polluted planet.
NIGHT SESSION
9.00PM CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD
11:00PM WILD ZERO
01:00AM DEMONS
03:00AM SURPRISE MOVIE
In horror auteur Lucio Fulci’s City of the Living Dead a priest commits suicide by hanging himself in the church cemetery, which somehow opens the gates of hell, allowing the dead to rise. Outrageous gore is a highlight of this Italian splat fest.
Next up we have ‘Brutality of screen!’, ‘Thrill, speed and stupid zombies!’ in Wild Zero the debut movie of Japan’s trash rockers Guitar Wolf. Band’s rock ‘n’ roll philosophy on celluloid is thoroughly deranged cramming in bikes, guns, zombies, UFOs and transvestites.
The seminal Demons written by Dario Argento features a woman getting scalped and a blind man gets his eyes poked out of his head in a moment of strange irony. Demons contains abundant gore, ridiculous dubbing and ludicrous plot twists... Our final film will be a surprise for all those still standing.
YOU CAN PURCHASE THE £15 TICKET FROM THE FILM FESTIVAL. ALL OTHER TICKETS FOR DARK WATER AT THE WATERFRONT ARE AVAILABLE FROM WATERFRONT BOX OFFICE.
